isn’t it kind of ridiculous when you hear someone complain/worry about eating meat on fridays during lent season? like one day out of the week is ‘totes hard.’ is it really? is your craving for dead flesh that intense that you simply MUST have it? it just seems silly. for people who don’t eat it at all, it’s lent friday everyday. and these people don’t do it because it’s formality, these people do it because they realize the importance and fragility of life (or something). or for health reasons.
if you think about it, earth is the only place for millions and millions of miles (as far as we know) that has the ability to harbour life, on all levels. meaning, down from the insects up to the humans, everyone is here due to some cosmic miracle. when you eat an animal, you are depriving that creature of its life. you are basically destroying something that cannot be made elsewhere for millions and millions of miles in the entire galaxy. for your taste buds? seems really selfish.
meat is purely for preference now. it seems selfish to covet this, when in this modern world, it is unnecessary to kill to sustain a healthy diet. i mean, whatevs. eating/not eating meat won’t get you any closer to enlightenment. it’s the equivalent of donning a flannel shirt and convincing yourself you’re edgy and fashionable. so is it really that hard for you to stop that for 24 hours out of your oh-so-meaningful lives? before you know it, it’s going to be saturday and you can go back to eating your hot dogs and hamburgers while you play xbox, pound beerz with your broz, talk about the latest episode of _____, gossip about who saw who at _____ with ______, and then convincing yourselves that you’re in the right when you go to church on sunday. etc etc etc.
we know very well that it’s a fake but nonetheless allow ourselves to be genuinely emotionally effected. through the immersion of fakery we come upon a realized truth, which itself is a construction, and thus, a fake.
